The eighth annual Chicago Fringe Festival, showcasing some 50 acts in nearly 200 performances over nine days of shows will feature comedians, dramas, solo shows, dance, and puppetry… but just one mind reader. The Chicago-based Mark Toland, who has toured nationally and internationally with his one-man show “Mark Toland, Mind Reader” and appeared frequently on Chicago television and radio programs, will put his award-winning mind reading skills to the test for seven performances throughout the festival. The festival runs from August 30th-September 10th, 2017.
Toland’s show is a fast-paced, interactive experience full of mind-boggling mysteries of the mind. Toland selects audience members at random and reveals birthdays, memories, and personal thoughts that he couldn’t possibly know in advance.
Toland took his show on an international tour this summer where he won an “Audience Choice” award at the 2017 FRIGID Festival in New York City, a “Patrons Pick” at the Orlando Fringe Festival, “Critics Choice” at PortFringe, and “Outstanding Mentalism Performance” at the San Diego International Fringe Festival. “I’m thrilled to bring my show back to Chicago Fringe and be a part of such an incredible festival,” Toland said.
Mark has been a favorite guest on TV and radio shows, having previously appeared on NBC, Fox, and WGN. He’s also performed live at venues as diverse as Disney theme parks and the TEDx stage. The Chicago Tribune calls Mark’s show “Mind blowing!” and Theme Park University has recognized Mark for being “One of the best mentalism acts in the world!” Mark is available for on-air appearances the week of August 28.
Toland’s Fringe Festival performance dates and times are August 31st at 10pm, September 1st at 8:30pm, September 2nd at 7pm, September 3rd at 5:30pm, September 4th at 2:30pm, September 9th at 8:30pm, and September 10th at 4pm. Shows will be held at the Meeting Hall (Basement) at Congregational Church of Jefferson Park, 5320 W Giddings St, Chicago, IL. Tickets are $10 with a one-time purchase of a festival button. About Mark Toland
Mark Toland is a mind reader, filmmaker, skeptic, actor, writer, and runner. His award-winning entertainment is the go-to choice for major corporate and college events around the world.
In 2014, Mark amazingly predicted the outcome of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. In the same year, he also correctly guessed the headlines of The Chicago Tribune - over three weeks in advance.
After multiple appearances on WGN TV, Mark was hired to create and star in a 12-part WGN Radio Web Series. The series concluded with an astonishing demonstration of second sight, as Mark hopped on a bicycle - completely blindfolded - and rode it through the busy streets of downtown Chicago.
Mark studied theater at Wichita State University and the University of Southern California. While attending university he was a member of the prestigious Junior Program at the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. He is also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Psychic Entertainers Association.
Mark has been featured in Campus Activities Magazine, given a TEDx Talk, and was a featured performer at Disney World. Today, he performs hundreds of shows each year for exclusive events worldwide.
The Hawk was a common name for the cold, winter wind in Chicago, possibly even predating "the Windy City." Additionally, a hawk can see up to eight times more clearly than the human eye.
