Blue Man Group has announced new material and an updated schedule for the spring season as the production continues its open-ended run at the Briar Street Theatre.
While I had never seen the production before (and therefore cannot comment on new material specifically) the show kept the audience engaged and excited throughout. For those who have never experienced the Chicago staple, you can expect an evening of wordless sketch comedy, dancing, and music - all through the lens of a few 90's street artists. The Blue Men must be a hit with fans of Despicable Me's Minions, as their humor is nearly identical. The production is safe for fans of all ages, and the first few rows will get wet. There are also several moments of audience participation (and, well, shaming). Though there are moments of obvious (if not somewhat sexist) humor that fall flat, most of the show will keep you brainlessly chuckling - which is most likely the reason that the show has been around for so long. Read on for more information from the company.
Added spring dates include performances on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) and Easter (April 16). Spring Break audiences looking to make the most of their Chicago experience can take advantage of a variety of ticket packages that Blue Man Group has to offer. Visitors looking to explore the city’s landmarks can enjoy special Blue Man Group packages with Skydeck Chicago, 360 Chicago (formerly the John Hancock Observatory) or Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Company. Upon purchasing a ticket for Blue Man Group, guests can receive a free ticket to visit Chicago’s Willis Tower Skydeck (where they can step out onto one of the building’s “Ledge” glass boxes) or 360 Chicago (for unparalleled views of Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan). For a unique tour of the city, audience members who purchase Blue Man Group tickets can save 10 percent on single or three-day tour tickets with Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Company.
Those looking to grab a bite before or after a Blue Man Group show can take advantage of dinner packages with Drew’s on Halsted and Yoshi’s Café, both located steps away from the Briar Street Theatre. To book dinner-show packages, guests can call the Blue Man Group box office to buy their tickets and make their dinner reservation. At Drew’s on Halsted, guests will receive an appetizer, entrée, dessert and coffee or tea for $24.95. Yoshi’s Café offers a prix fixe dinner including an appetizer, main entrée and dessert for $24.95.
Blue Man Group performances are a celebration of human connection. Mixing art, music, comedy and state-of-the-art technology, the show encourages audiences to reconnect with their inner (and outer) child and see the world through a new perspective. Three bald and blue men explore our cultural norms with wide-eyed wonder, poking fun at our collective quirks and reminding us how much we all have in common. Backed by a live rock band, the Blue Men unify the audience for the show’s celebratory climax - an unforgettable, euphoric dance party.
Blue Man Group is continually refreshed with new music, fresh stories and custom instruments. It's a joyful, multi-sensory experience that has performed in over 20 countries and has captivated more than 35 million people of all ages and cultures worldwide.
