Artemisia has announced the cast for its Midwest Premiere of Traci Godfrey’s SWEET TEXAS RECKONING, directed by Julie Proudfoot, Artemisia’s Artistic Director. The production features Chicago favorites Wendye Clarendon,(Ellie) who was wonderful in Shear Madness at the Chicago Theatre, and Carrie Lee Patterson, (Kate) who delighted audiencesas Gwendolyn in The Odd Couple at Drury Lane Oakbrook. The cast also features Tonya Simmons, (Samantha) known for her terrific performance as Mrs. Barry in Anne of Green Gables and John Wehrman, (Alan John) who was recently seen as Pato in The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Clarendon and Patterson were featured in the Fall Festival 2016 reading of SWEET TEXA S RECKONING, which was the audience favorite and won the vote to be fully produced as part of Artemisia’s 2017-18 Theatre Season.“Playwright Traci Godfrey is that rare combination of great theatre artist and gifted storyteller. We love her characters because we recognize their humanity. SWEET TEXAS RECKONING takes us home in so many hilarious and inspiring ways,” says Julie Proudfoot, director. In addition to being named the Artemisia Fall Festival 2016 Audience Favorite, “Sweet Texas Reckoning” was the first place winner of the New Works of Merit 2016 International Competition.
Sweet Texas Reckoning runs from June 8 through June 30 at The Frontier Theatre, with performances Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 6:00 pm. There is a one-time only matinee performance on Saturday, June 8 at 2 pm. Doors & Box Office open thirty minutes before each performance. TRACI GODFREY is an award winning actor and playwright. Her writing credits include Hotter Than Georgia Asphalt, The Pink Perfection, Jamboni Macaroni (for children’s television), Miles To Go Before I Sleep (produced in London and New York), Spitting Image, a screenplay about nepotism in Hollywood, and SWEET TEXAS RECKONING,the Panndora’s Box Festival 2015, 1st Place Winner; New Works of Merit 2016 International Competition, 1st Place Winner; Thespis Festival New York 2015; Artemisia Fall Festival 2016 Audience Favorite, slated for full production in Chicago in 2018.
